Inspiration Stories
In the 18th century, with the rise of Chinoiserie in Europe, a fascination with and imagination of the East as a mysterious realm began to take shape. Porcelain, as a key medium transported along the Maritime Silk Road, profoundly influenced European aesthetic systems. From the courtly interiors of Louis XIV to the Eastern decorative elements favored by designers such as Coco Chanel, this cultural influence has endured across time.
The New Necklace
from William McGregor Paxton
This collection draws inspiration from traditional Chinese export porcelain, reinterpreting iconic forms such as the Yuhuchun vase and the pomegranate-shaped vessel into refined contemporary jewellery. Through the combination of “China White” enamel and warm-toned metal, the pieces create a dialogue between materials while echoing the historical journey of porcelain from East to West.
Through the fusion of porcelain and metal, Jardin de Porcelaine explores the translation and regeneration of culture across geographies.
